In the heart of Amsterdam, Nienke Detmeijer has created a calm, stylish retreat for her family with three-year-old daughter, Philine. With a busy career in entertainment marketing and a full family life, Nienke’s home is a “less is more” oasis — a place to reset, unwind, and just be.
“I finally feel like this house is ours,” Nienke says. “Everything in the room has a purpose and adds character. I love mixing warm materials with old and new pieces—it feels personal and unique.”
It's All About Finding Balance
Life with a three-year-old keeps her on her toes, but Nienke has her rituals: Sunday family breakfasts, evening resets with music and candles (and tidying up toys), occasional sauna visits, and workouts twice a week. “It’s all about being present — work when I work, mom when I’m home,” she shares.
A Cozy, Minimalist Home
Nienke’s home feels effortlessly calm, a mix of minimalism and warmth. "We worked with Anne Claus and her team to create the perfect family home," she explains. The result is a “less is more” aesthetic: neutral base colors, warm materials, and a mix of vintage and new pieces that make every room feel personal.
In the living room, style meets function. The Malawi Chair and Eco Birdy Set bring kid-friendly charm without sacrificing design. "They fit perfectly with the rest of our aesthetic while giving the living room a more child-friendly vibe," she says.

Philine’s Room: Personal & Playful
Philine recently moved into a slightly smaller room, but her favorites stayed: the rug, cabinet, and beloved stuffed animals. Nienke styled the space to feel in tune with the rest of the home while still being magical for a three-year-old.
“Styling tip from Nienke: Don’t overthink it. Let it evolve. Give kids space to collect little treasures, that’s what really makes it their room.”

Bath Time Magic
Whether it’s splashing, singing, or winding down before pajamas, bath time is one of those little rituals that make a house feel like home.
