A Magical Visit to Saint Nicholas in Spain.
Years ago, I wrote a letter to Saint Nicholas and the Piets, asking if I could visit them. After much thought, they invited me to stay for a week at their estate in Spain. I drew everything I saw — the grand house, the workshop, the steamboat, and the busy life of the Piets — which became a picture book full of stories.
Now, many years later, I’ve returned to Spain to see how things have changed. The Piets live in a new apartment building with a climbing wall, the attic is now a library, and the steamboat runs almost entirely on clean energy. Even Saint Nicholas may have a mobile phone now!
I drew all my discoveries again — from the Pieten’s new home to the modern world back in the Netherlands — and turned them into this festive picture book.
Can you spot Witje, Saint Nicholas’s cat? He’s hiding on every page… except when he’s visiting us!
